) - 5mL rollerball decants of CocoaPink EDPs for $8 (choices include Lipstick Stains in SMAT strength
) A note about decants: Accuracy and cleanliness are my highest priorities when decanting. I take it extremely seriously, and complete a series of confirmation checks to ensure that every single decant is filled to the correct volume – not even a drop less! My decants will generally come in screw top jars with a reducer and printed, easy-to-read labels. The following brands will come in vials instead of jars (unless you get 2mLs or more, in which case they’ll come in jars): Alpha Musk, Death & Floral, Possets, Haus of Gloi, and Hexennacht. I ensure that my materials and working space are kept very clean. I decant with disposable, single-use 1mL pipettes and check my work twice with a scale to ensure accurate fill level.

2023.05.28 02:58 AfricanYeti Grep and Regex help needed
The task is to use grep and a single logical RegEx to read the file, print text that starts with a number followed by a space and the word cat. Continue to match any characters until you reach another number followed by a space character and the word dog. I'm using this in Linux command line.
The input text is:
Joe and Sally just got married. They have 2 cats and 1
dog at their house. They want to get a bird for their next
pet.
Desired output is: 2 cats and 1 dog
Currently I have:
grep -oP "[0-9] +cats.+?(?=[0-9])+[0-9]" inputfile
This returns: 2 cats and 1
For some reason the newline/space after 1 is making this impossible for me. I'm aware that there is nothing at the end of my code that signifies to look for dog but everything that I have tried to add breaks it. So above is my most functioning code that I have. I have tried editing the input file and have gotten the desired output if it were all one line. I don't need the exact answer but some guidance as to how I can try and figure this out would be greatly appreciated as I've been going at it for close to a dozen hours across a few days. I have only started using RegEx this week so mostly what I am learning is from old forum posts and what not.

2023.05.28 02:55 Responsible_Top_1942 $CATSZN l Come for the memes, stay for the pussy! 0% Tax Eth Token Renounced/Locked/Burnt
THE CAT - Why chase frogs or dogs when we have cute and cuddly pussy for you? It's $CATSZN
TheCat is a paw-some crypto token inspired by adorable kitties that will make your heart melt. If you're tired of all the noise and flashy promises of other tokens, TheCat is the purr-fect choice for you!
Token: The Cat
Symbol: $CATSZN
Chain: ETH
~ LP Burnt
~ Contract Renounced
~ Taxes 0/0
TheCat is built on the Ethereum blockchain and uses a tokenomics model that's as cute as a kitten. It's deflationary, which means that the token supply decreases over time, just like how a cat gets smaller after a good grooming session. Plus, TheCat is a community-driven token, which means that its success depends on the support and meow-tivation of its community members.
So, if you're looking for a crypto token that's as cute as a button and has a community that's as cuddly as a kitty, look no further than TheCat!
Total Supply
Paws-itively adorable! There are 420,690,000,000,000 TheCat tokens in circulation. But if that's not enough, why not create some more with your feline wits, you clever cat, you?
Token Distribution
8.31% of the tokens are held in multisig for CEX listing, which is where all the cool cats hang out. The remaining 91.69% of tokens are used to supply liquidity, keeping the cat market running like a well-oiled purr-machine.
Transaction Fee
Meow-velous news! There are no taxes for this cute kitty token. No need to worry about pesky things like that when you're too busy chasing catnip and balls of yarn.
Audit and Security
The contract is renounced, so you can be fur-sure that our cute cat token is safe and secure. No need to be scaredy-cat here!
How's your cattitude?
Feeling a little feisty today? That's okay, we won't judge. In fact, we think being a bit sassy is pretty paw-some! And let's be honest, sometimes it's fun to share your cattitude with others.
But enough chit-chat, let's get to the good stuff! The Cat needs some yummy treats to keep its cute belly full. So why not show off your love for all things cute and feline? Add one of these adorable banners or profile pics to your Twitter account to let the world know just how much you adore your furry friends.
And if you're not in the mood to be too catty today, that's totally okay too! We just want you to enjoy being a part of the cat community, whether you're feeling sassy or sweet. Meow!

2023.05.28 02:49 SnooWaffles413 My kitten keeps latching onto me and biting and clawing more than usual... help!?
Hello everyone. I'm looking at all of the subreddits I can for advice because I am just tired at this point and I don't know what to do.
On April 24th I adopted (more like rescued) a female kitten that is a Cornish Rex / Sphynx mix from a breeder (100% a backyard breeder who we recorded and the organization said everything is normal there like no it ain't). She had bad health but was still spunky and playful so she was put on medicine and is still on medicine because she also recently had a parasite and is now recovering from ringworm (alongside me).
We put her in my bedroom with plenty of toys, climbing tree, soft beds, fresh water everyday, etc. She's been super loving and playful. But lately, she's been really mean. Before she would occasionally bite or latch onto me but it never hurt as much and it was easy to put a stop to.
Now, it's nonstop. Last Sunday she was playing with her toy and jumped at my face and got her paw in my eye. I got eye saline solution and it's all good. Nothing bad. But she's constantly attacking my head and hair, my arms, my legs and feet. It's nonstop always, especially at night. I don't know what to do. I know kittens and puppies are a pain in the butt to take care of and train but I genuinely feel like she's gonna turn into this mean cat.
We got this breed because they're hypoallergenic and affectionate cats. And she can be, but 60% of the time she's crazy. I try to redirect her with toys and stuff but it doesn't work.
We've been keeping her in my room with a gate because we have 5 dogs and we want her to be healthy before she is able to integrate into the house. Plus, if she is sickly like that they'll know and maybe think she's prey. Also she has ringworm and we can't afford to let our dogs get it when we leave for vacation in a few weeks. We still expose them by holding her and letting them sniff her and stuff and it goes fantastic. They have no interest in her when food is out so that is also a good sign.
But I'm thinking maybe she's going stir crazy? But I barely have time to pay attention to her all the time. I have work to do and I work at home but... idk. However I don't want this behavior constantly happening! I understand cats can be like that for different reasons, but I'm really unsure what to do.
My previous and first cat had grown up with me and we made it into our 20s together. She bit if she was mad or had enough (incredibly rare) petting, but overall she was incredibly affectionate and smart, like she'd wrap her arms around me in a hug. It's been 3 years since I put her down. I thought I was ready for a cat, when before I didn't think I'd ever want another cat again. I was super excited and absolutely in love with her but I'm scared. She's harder to redirect and scold and is constantly on me. This is what I'd expect from a new kitten when I first got her, not weeks later!?
I don't want to regret adopting her. I love her, but sometimes I'm just so stressed with her health and my college life and everything that tonight I just ended up crying after she latched onto the gate and clawed my finger tip. 😢
I don't know what to do. I'm scared this is how she'll always be. I can't get hardly any sleep at night without worrying that she'll latch onto my arm or head.
I'm looking at getting a kickeroo cat toy for her so hopefully she'll latch onto that instead, but I'm just... I'm tires.
This is all an overreaction but I need to vent and I hope she for some advice on what to do.

2023.05.28 02:44 totalst8ofeuphoria Elderly cat peeing in front of litterbox - no other changes
I have an elderly (approx. 16). She’s in good health for her age.
Recently, (the last week or so) she’s been peeing (not pooping) outside her litterbox, more specifically right in front of it. We’re taking her to the vet in a few days, but I thought I’d ask if anyone has experience with this issue.
When we first noticed it, we thought the issue was that she was having trouble accessing the old litterbox - it was the kind where they have to hop on top then go down inside (we have 3 other cats, so this is one of 5 litterboxes in the house) and she’s never had issues with it before. We just assumed that her mobility was decreasing, so we got her a new litterbox where she just has to step in.
She found this new litterbox with no issues, but she has taken to stepping her front paws in and peeing in front of the entrance. As of now, we have pee pads in front of it to stop her from soiling the carpet. She pees 4-5 times a day, which doesn’t seem more than what she was before the issue.
Other than this issue, we haven’t noticed any changes, so my assumption is it’s behavioral - like I said, we are taking her to the vet.
- Her appetite is fine; she consistently eats all of her wet food at both meal times during the day and snacks on hard food during the day.
- I haven’t noticed an increase in her water intake.
- She doesn’t appear to be in any type of distress when she urinates
- Her pee isn’t bloody or off color.
- Her coat is normal and she has no issues grooming herself
I work from home so I’m pretty in tune to her habits. Also, the litterbox is clean - I scoop 1 or 2 times a day depending upon how much is in there and I replace all the litter every 2-3 weeks. We use a clumping clay litter.
Any advice is appreciated! I’m willing to try just about anything.

2023.05.28 01:46 samanthasgramma 3 drowned mice ... my naked sprint and the old guy
For this one, I have to set the scene.
It happened a number of years ago, when I was still semi-youngish, slimmer, cuter, and menopause hadn't cried "You're old, now, and have done childbirth a couple of times? WHOMP!". Nothing had headed so south, back then.
I live in a Northern Southern Ontario snow belt region, in a lovely suburban neighborhood of raised single residence bungalows, perfect front lawns and folks who keep an eye on you, whether you like it or not. It's a quiet place, with mostly old folks, and we were the barbarian youngsters who had the unmitigated gall to start and raise a family in the middle of homes who go to bed at 9:45 p.m.
Having said this, we got along well with the next door, 134 year old, neighbors. She took up two airline seats, had a nasal, high pitched voice, and loved to sit in her back yard, drinking white wine, calling her husband's name and issuing horticultural instructions. He was 14 months beer pregnant, slumped around his yard with a defeated gait, was usually shirtless doing good weather, and his upper butt crack, and I, were too well acquaintaned.
Over all, they were okay. She got a little puckered when she caught him spying on me when I sun bathed on my patio, but otherwise, they were good people.
One more important detail ... My garage is part way into my basement, and the passage door is in my downstairs hallway. It's significant because I was carrying a bucket of hot water, lots of Lysol in it, and a rag, through the house, and down to this door - paw prints on the door casing - when I was called away. Thinking I'd get back to the job later, I opened the door, plunked the bucket onto the floor of the garage, and left. I never got back to the job.
I don't know about you, but at about this time of year - late autumn - my garage turns into a dumping ground that accumulates debris, until some point, in the spring, when I yell "There isn't even a path through here! We're cleaning the garage!". And so, my bucket of Lysol water was promptly buried under something (I think a loosely folded tarpoline) and completely forgotten.
Weeks go by, when I had cause to go into the garage, and I smelled it. That funky smell of something that had found it's way inside and died. Given the state of the place, it took a concentrated effort to locate the source. In my Lysol water were 3 drowned mice. The bucket had to go. But I also had to go. Had a place to be, and I was already late. But the smell ... I grabbed the bucket, took it outside, and carefully placed it at the far corner of the garage. I'd deal with it later.
But, that night, it SNOWED. Not the light, fluffy, pretty stuff. We got dumped on. Heavy, dense, impenetrable. It buried the bucket, and I forgot about it. And it wasn't until the mid-spring thaw that the bucket emerged again.
I eyed it, wondering what I was going to do with 3 decomposing mice in a bucket of Lysol water. It was fully melted, and sloshed a bit when I picked it up. I had a stroke of genius. Dump it behind the back shed.
I could hear my next door neighbors, in their yard, christening the first day of warmth with libations, as I trudged through my yard, and looked at the wet mud hill that leads to the back of my shed. The mud would be slippery, but I had 3 decomposing mice, in Lysol water, needing to leave my possession, so I was prepared to risk it.
... to be continued...

2023.05.28 00:47 paigedaly Help! Clever kitty has mastered the art of manipulation... seeking advice on nightly face swatting sessions from Machiavelli inspired cat
Hey there! I could really use some help with a new behavior my adorable cat, Hex, has picked up. She's a clever and affectionate girl who knows exactly how to get what she wants. Lately, she's discovered that a gentle paw-bat to my face (her claws aren't out/she isn't throwing any jabs, lol) while I'm sleeping or in bed will wake me up and make me give in to her demands for attention, kisses, or, most commonly, food. It's been taking a toll on my sleep because she now starts her wake-up routine as early as 3:00 am, persistently seeking a meal despite having dry food available. Hex is also not shy about giving me a friendly bop when she wants extra love, even if I'm already snoozing. She insists on my full wakefulness and engagement before she's satisfied and goes back to her usual business. I've tried all sorts of maneuvers to evade her paw and even sleep in an unusual position that covers most of my face (I wrap the blankets over most of my face/head, picture a seal coming up for air at a hole in ice, lol). I can roll over, lay on my stomach, block my face with a hand or pillow, slip, roll, dive, dip, dodge, duck... you name it, Hex will always find an opening to give me a bop. She has some impressive Hasbro Operation champion no buzzer-type skills—it honestly makes me wonder what she could accomplish if she had opposable thumbs! So, how can I put an end to Hex's nightly swatting sessions and reclaim my precious sleep? Is this behavior a sign of something deeper, or has she simply mastered the art of getting spoiled? By the way, I can't lock her out of the room because my house is doorless (not as strange as it sounds—search "trinity row house" on Google). We've been living in the same place for over a year, and our routine hasn't changed. Hex's daytime behavior remains completely normal and unchanged, and our other cat, Poe, doesn't join in on bopping me awake but clearly isn't bothered by the early access to wet food. I appreciate any advice you can offer to help us get back to a restful night's sleep!

2023.05.28 00:38 Damillian Pathfinder 2e group near Eindhoven
We're looking for a few more players for a new Pathfinder 2e campaign that will be starting in a couple of weeks. The campaign will run bi-weekly on Tuesdays, in Nuenen (near Eindhoven). New players to PF2E are welcome.
- So far we are a DM and 2-3 players, somewhere around 30 years old.
- We play in English, since one of the players is still learning Dutch.
- We like a mix of roleplay and exploration/combat. However, we're not a very mechanical/min-max-friendly group. Good roleplay and character motives go before stats.
- I will sometimes roll out the battle mat, sometimes make drawings, and often just describe things. I'm not the kind of DM to put a 3D printed dungeon on top of a TV screen, have miniatures for every creature and play accompanying music. So some imagination required!
- We will be playing at my home, snacks and drinks are welcome, and there's a cat (sorry if you're allergic!)
For information on the story, or any other questions, feel free to poke me. Since it's a new campaign, a lot is still open for discussion.
The planning:
June 13th: A one-shot to let everyone try out PF2E and get to know each other.
June 27th: Get together to make characters and discuss the campaign.
From there on out, we'll be playing every 2 weeks on Tuesday, roughly from 19:00-23:00-ish.

Hello, Rnadoms!!
I am overjoyed to create this purrfect community where we can celebrate our love for all things feline. Today, I want to share a heartwarming tale that taught me a valuable lesson about the bond between humans and our furry companions.
Once upon a time, I used to believe that my adorable cat, Luna, wasn't allowing me to venture outside for extended periods. I thought she needed me to return home quickly to attend to her every need. Oh, how I felt torn between my desire for outdoor adventures and my responsibility as a devoted cat parent!
But then, an epiphany struck me like a feather tickling my whiskers. I realized that I had unintentionally put undue pressure on myself. It was time to rewrite the narrative and embark on a journey of freedom and togetherness.
I made a conscious decision to include Luna in every outdoor escapade that beckoned. From leisurely walks to exciting vacations, I discovered the joy of experiencing life's wonders hand in paw with my beloved companion.
Together, Luna and I explored new territories, basking in the warm embrace of nature's wonders. The sight of her delightfully twitching whiskers and twinkling eyes filled my heart with pure bliss. We navigated bustling streets, hiked through breathtaking landscapes, and even embarked on whimsical adventures—each one strengthening our bond and unveiling a deeper understanding of one another.
As I reflect on this journey, I've come to appreciate the profound connection between human psychology and cat psychology. Our feline friends possess an uncanny ability to mirror our emotions and reflect our inner worlds. By embracing freedom and creating shared experiences, I found that Luna's contentment grew alongside my own, dispelling any lingering doubts I once held.
Now, I invite you, dear community, to share your own tales of togetherness and exploration with your furry companions (funny, sad or motivational, take your pick). How have you found balance between your own desires and the needs of your beloved cats? Have you experienced a similar realization that transformed your relationship?
Let's delve into the fascinating realm of human-cat psychology, exploring how our interactions and mutual growth contribute to a harmonious bond. And, of course, don't forget to grace our screens with adorable pictures and videos of your delightful feline friends along the way 🥰🥰
Together, let's create a sanctuary of shared experiences, heartwarming stories, and valuable insights. Welcome to FluffyLunaWorld, where the love for cats and the joy of discovery intertwine.

2023.05.27 23:15 Mortimer_Whimsiwick World Hunger Games: 17th Hunger Games: Pregames
The parade was about to commence and all of the tributes gathered in the holding tunnel to prepare themselves. The District 6 entourage arrived at their chariot on time and walked down the tunnel. Jack was surveying the competition and felt intimidated by the career tributes up front. The side eye given by Andrei (2) and the vacant, empty stare of Vista (3) certainly didn’t help matters. He complained about the nut costume looking similar to Olivine (1)’s ballerina costume while Cat commented on the tightness of her bolt costume. Phoebe assured them that they were more than the costumes and just had to deal with them. She added that if the costumes are poorly received, that would be all the comeuppance Sasha needed.
Thankfully, Sasha wasn’t present, having passed out drunk an hour ago. Morrana met them at the chariot and advised them to play into the absurdity of their costumes. Cat said she had some ideas and asked what Jack thought. Jack wasn’t listening as he was watching some more tributes enter the tunnel. He shuddered at the sheer size of Wolvthorne (7) and chuckled watching Wren (5) slap her district partner Terry (5) and get reprimanded by her mentor Ashley Chen (victor of the 13th Hunger Games). However, he was perplexed by the arrival of the District 4 tributes coming from the opposite direction. Cat snapped him back to reality and asked what was going on. He pointed towards the District 4 tributes and swore one of them looked familiar.
Gill led his mentees down the tunnel to their chariot. Pearl was overwhelmed by the mix of emotions displayed on the tributes’ faces. She felt sorry for little Logan (11), who was struggling to hold it together. She glanced at the tall John (9), who yelled “What are you looking at!” at her. Mortimer, who was ignoring everyone at that point, asked if he had a problem. The two were about to butt heads, but Gill and Tris Plummer (victor of the 8th Hunger Games) pulled the two apart. The three arrived at their chariot and reunited with Minerva. She asked the two if they were ready to which both said yes. In a sudden change of character, Mortimer thanked Minerva for the tattoo work, describing her new addition as “worthy of the Kraken”. Pearl asked if she could get a sneak peek before the show to which Mortimer obliged. When he opened his shirt, he happened to look up behind him and spot Wolvthorne (7) giving Mortimer a hard stare. He didn’t hear Pearl and Gill’s compliments to the stylist as he returned the stare.
Gill snapped him out of it, reminding him not to make enemies too early. Mortimer simply pointed him out, asking his mentor if he looked like the Wharf Village troublemaker Adrian Carrack if he was buff. Gill squinted and annoyedly said, “Wow. The resemblance is uncanny.” Pearl said she lived in the Anchor Square, but claimed the name sounded familiar. Gill explained he was one of the bad apples he mentioned earlier. He was described as a tall muscular ginger boy with freckles and three front teeth missing. Mortimer commented how he would occasionally steal from the more affluent families as well as his boat and constantly hit on his girlfriend while also giving himself credit for two of the missing teeth. Pearl recalled Adrian’s identity, claiming to have seen him skulking around both the Slippery Shell and The Brine, guessing that’s how Gill knew of him. Mortimer commented how he wouldn’t mind killing Lionel (1) in the games as well, but Gill warned him not to antagonise him during training.
The parade finally began and the tributes’ chariots rolled out. Surprisingly, the District 1 sported elegant ballroom costumes Ulysses Blanco himself considered mediocre, but gave props for Olivine and Lionel (1) trying to sell it. He was greatly impressed with the District 3 costumes, which resembled smartphones but considered the despondency of the tributes’ faces a buzzkill, commenting on Shoya (3)’s flimsy hand waving. When District 4 was revealed to the world, Pearl and Mortimer stood proud and strong as the audience ate up their outfits. Pearl waved her hand and flipped her hair around, wowing the audience with her grace. Mortimer twirled his fake trident in the air and tipped his crown to the ladies in the audience. Suddenly, Mortimer ripped his shirt off, exposing the newly polished Kraken tattoo with a new open treasure chest tattoo on his chest with the tentacles attached as if holding it. The crowd went wild for the art etched on his skin, even more so when Pearl leaned against him and pointed at the Kraken.
Soon enough, the District 6 chariot rolled out and reception towards Cat and Jack’s costumes were mixed at best. At first, Cat and Jack simply smiled and waved but weren’t receiving much love. Suddenly, Cat asked Jack to trust her and to get on his shoulders. Jack hesitantly relented and allowed her to climb on. The audience were confused at first, but noticed the bolt costume perfectly lined up with the nut costume as if it was being inserted in the other. Jermaine Blanco admitted they utilised their painfully mediocre costumes well. However, at the end of the parade, the title of Blanco Fashion Magazine’s Best Dressed was awarded to District 8 for their bright and colourful mix and match outfits.
In the District 4 apartment, Minerva felt slightly dejected by her loss but was reassured by Pearl that the audience still enjoyed her work. Gill poured her a drink and ordered some Capital cake. Mortimer thanked Minerva for the improved look of his tattoo, wishing his girlfriend Meridia thought of it sooner. He caught himself after blurting this out. Everyone had confused looks on their faces. Pearl deduced Meridia was the one who drew the initial tattoo. Mortimer’s silence confirmed this, Gill exclaiming, “I knew it!” Mortimer felt embarrassed and stormed off to his room, Minerva yelling that she had good steady hands. Pearl asked Gill how her partner could ever nab a girl with his sullen and abrasive attitude. Gill knelt down and explained that Meridia is the only girl who was kind to him and only one he let in. Gill further explained that she assisted in taking care of Mortimer’s father and usually spent time with him after work hours, despite her father’s protests. Before Pearl could ask more questions, the Capital cake arrived. Pearl walked to Mortimer’s door and apologized for putting him on the spot, asking him to come and join them. After several minutes, he obliged.
Two stories above them, the District 6 entourage returned to see a disheveled Sasha standing in the middle of the room. She blamed Morrana and Phoebe for the near disastrous parade performance. Jack insisted this was all her fault, accusing her of laziness while Cat simply stood with her fists balled up. Sasha raised her hand, but Cat was quicker and slapped Sasha clean across the face. Cat yelled at Sasha, going into detail of how much at fault she was over the preceding events, citing Jack’s laziness point and bringing up her alcoholism. She praised Morrana for stepping up to care for them, give them advice, and make them feel at home. All this while Phoebe watched on with a proud smile on her face. Cat finished it all off by declaring they will be more than happy to complain about her any chance they got. Sasha didn’t dare to try again as Phoebe and Jack stepped closer to Cat. Sasha snatched a whiskey bottle and left the room, crying “Good riddance you little brats!”
Everyone applauded Cat’s bravery and Phoebe ordered some room service. Cat and Jack sat down on the couch with some fruit punch and discussed the parade. Jack claimed to have seen the District 4 male before, during the fated smuggling operation he was arrested for. Cat asked if he thought the boy recognized him, but Jack was unsure. He didn’t want an alliance with him, claiming he appeared untrustworthy. Cat shrugged and pointed out he was able bodied and would be a more viable option compared to Districts 1 & 2. She suggested they approach and talk to them during training after they watch them for a bit. Jack hesitantly agreed. With a new plan in order, everyone in the District 6 apartment relaxed and enjoyed the remainder of the day.
The next morning, all of the tributes dragged themselves out of bed to prepare for their training session. There was an incident at the penthouse apartment when Jassy (12) tripped over her partner Neutron (12) and slammed her head on the floor. Her mentor Andrew “Corpse” Beckford (victor of the 10th Hunger Games) put a bandage on her head and gave her aspirin. As soon as everyone gathered in the training room, Training Master Feldman gave the routine rundown and twirled his water cannon. All of the mentors gathered in the mentors lounge at the corner of the room, conversing with each other. When he was listing reasons for him to use it, he noticed Horace (10) concealing a middle finger directed towards him. Feldman sprayed him and warned all tributes of offending him. He eventually dismissed the tributes.
Jack and Cat both gravitated towards the survival station and began working together in the shelter building section. The two spent the first hour crafting a tent while simultaneously surveying their surroundings. A half hour before lunchtime, they were quizzing themselves in the plant identification section. Cat was spying on Carnelia (11), who had successfully started a fire, taking in her technique. She had to avert her eyes as soon as the muscular Laurel (7) began staring her down from the second fire station. She asked Jack if he found any potential allies, claiming District 7 was off the table after Laurel’s disapproval of her watching the same tribute. Jack claimed he had only been watching the District 4 male, finally learning his name to be Mortimer. He explained he had now recognized him as part of the District 4 crew who had smuggled Tobias Stephens and some warmweed into their district. Cat asked if he did anything noteworthy, but Jack shook his head saying he was quiet and strangely the only one not immediately putting his hands on the contraband. Cat asked where he was, volunteering to talk to him. Jack pointed at the chemistry station, where he was spotted using a dropper of glowing green liquid on a petri dish. Cat admitted to being surprised by someone as big as him spending time in that particular station.
Jack asked if her therapy skills told her anything about the other tributes. Cat made only two observations: Ryetta (9) was most likely the weakest tribute and Wolvthorne (7) was arguably the most dangerous. Jack asked how they would find allies to combat him. Cat suggested she talk to Mortimer. Jack objected at first, but Cat pointed out how he must be skilled at chemistry, otherwise he wouldn’t be there at the station. She added that from a therapeutic standpoint, she found him fascinating and difficult to read. Jack relented and also made clear his intentions to practice camouflage. She told him to look after himself and then walked over to Mortimer. Jack stayed put for a few more minutes before transitioning to the camouflage station. He first attempted a tree background and had trouble with the intricate details of the bark. He tried a few more times and slammed his fists in the wall in frustration. Suddenly, he felt a tap on his shoulder and he turned to see Ryetta (9). She offered to show him some tricks to which he begrudgingly accepted. She worked with him until he was able to successfully blend in with the tree.
The first station Pearl set her roots in was the aquatic station. She started off by swimming laps, enjoying the solitude of being the only tribute there. While she was timing her breaths, Andrei (2) walked into the station and slipped into the pool. Pearl didn’t notice his presence at first, but was able to pick up his splashes as he freestyled towards her. Pearl didn’t want to be alone in the station with a career, so she climbed out of the pool and discretely went to the craft table to practice fishing lures. As she fashioned a makeshift fishing pole, she watched Andrei as he struggled to keep form. He hit his head on the pool’s tiled wall while doing the backstroke. Pearl involuntarily giggled to herself, but unfortunately for her, Andrei heard her. He hopped out of the pool and marched towards her, asking if anything was funny. She muttered out a meek apology before trying to leave. He followed her at first, but was dissuaded when he noticed Feldman watching from the mentors lounge with his water cannon visible. Andrei backed off while Pearl retreated to the plant identification simulator. Coincidentally, she arrived seconds after Jack had left, so she had the entire station to herself. She excelled at the memory simulation for an hour, but was unable to surpass Carnelia (11)’s high score. During lunch break, she visited Gill and began to converse with him about training. Gill told her she was off to a good start, but urged her to choose a weapon to try. Pearl didn’t feel safe going to any weapon station with the careers nearby, notably Andrei. She decided to find Mortimer and ask him to accompany her. Gill said it was a good idea. He commented on how strange it was that he hadn’t approached the weapons station either.
Mortimer’s day was relatively uneventful. He started off in the newly implemented yoga studio doing some stretches on the mat. He paid no heed to the confused looks of some of the tributes and mentors but was surprised and relieved to have Peggy (8) join him in the studio. She tried asking for an alliance, but he silently rebuffed her. After a relaxing stretching routine, Mortimer made his way to the chemistry station. He spent the next few hours at this station, brewing some experimental potions. He also used his time analyzing Olivine (1) and Nikita (2), both of whom were in the archery station. When Wolvthorne (7) entered the axe throwing station, Mortimer diverted his scanning eyes to him. He watched his masterful target practice all the while inching his way closer to his first successful healing potion. Suddenly, he heard, “Who are you looking at?” Mortimer nearly dropped his flask and looked up to see Cat standing on the other side of the table. Embarrassed and annoyed by the surprise, he asked what she wanted. Cat guessed he was watching Wolvthorne, claiming to not blame him as she considered him the greatest threat as well. Mortimer was confused by the out of left field accurate assumption and told her to mind her own business. Cat apologised and made her intentions clear to him. She asked for an alliance with her and Jack, commenting how he had seen him before. Mortimer found Jack in the corner of the camouflage station and stared back down at his work. He guessed he told her about the “exchange program” the two districts had. Cat confirmed this. She also relayed Jack’s description of his demeanour and hesitance to gorge on warmweed. Mortimer simply stated he wasn’t a junkie. Cat defended herself, “I didn’t say that. I mean, based on the station you’re in, I assume you know how to separate the SHC and the TBA.” Mortimer stared at her with wide eyes, asking how she knew that. Cat introduced herself and said she was a therapist working under Phoebe’s tutelage. She asked if they could have an alliance, arguing that they could be a great team against Wolvthorne and their careers. Mortimer was surprised for a moment, but refused the offer, claiming that trusting people in a death game was for fools. Cat put her hands up and apologized for bothering him and to find her if he changed his mind. Before she left, she said, “By the way, I recommend boiling the moldroot before mixing it with the plasma.”
Mortimer continued his attempts at a healing potion, each time met with failure. He sat annoyed with himself for a few moments. He then recalled Cat’s suggestion and decided to try it. He was surprised to see the finished potion successfully clear the training dummy’s discolored skin. He sat in disbelief for nearly an hour when Pearl walked up to him. She came to check on him, asking what he learned. Mortimer showcased his successful healing potion, choosing to neglect Cat’s recommendation. Pearl asked if he could accompany her to the weapons station because she wanted to practice a weapon and didn’t feel comfortable going by herself. Mortimer groaned and relented, replying how he needed to pick up the trident anyway. The two spent the remainder of the training session in the trident section, with Mortimer giving Pearl some pointers on the proper swing. He became aware of Cat entering the sword station next door and waving to him. He ignored her and continued to instruct Pearl. The two sparred with each other after the proper stance was established. It took until the final five minutes of training day before Pearl was able to nab her first win.
The next day, the training assessments began. Unfortunately, a thunderstorm cut off the power as Lionel (1) entered the assessment room. The Capital’s finest technicians were in a scramble to fix the power while Lionel proceeded to showcase his swordsmanship. The fix was predicted to take longer than expected, so Head Gamemaker Grimstone was ordered to commence with the assessments as planned and simply have the activities and scores be announced later on. It wasn’t until three hours before the tribute interviews that all of the scores were announced. The highest score was 11, which was awarded to Wolvthorne (7) for his deadly axing skills and brute strength. Lionel (1) and Nikita (2) both scored 10 for their swordsmanship and archery skills respectively. Mortimer scored a 10 as well for his trident skills and his unexpected chemical gifts. Pearl nabbed a 5 for her lackluster attempts at the trident, but impressive underwater breath holding time. Jack scored a 6 for his camouflage skills and decent shelter construction. Cat surprised the gamemakers by scoring a 7 for her impressive campsite construction and decent 7/13 sword duel score.
Back in the District 4 apartment, Gill Henderson congratulated Mortimer for his high score, making him a Powerful Pina Paradise. Pearl felt dejected over her low score, but Gill assured her that what mattered is that she tried her best. He also disclosed that Dolan (D4 tribute of the 12th Hunger Games) had a lower score of 3. The three began discussing the interviews and Gill asked them what they would say. Pearl suggested she disclose some waitress stories and maybe divulge some behind the counter secrets. Gill appeared satisfied by this answer, but reminded her to continue playing into her cuteness like at Darius Dock. Mortimer begrudgingly asked if sob stories were really necessary, admitting his life wasn’t as interesting. Gill argued that it was interesting, reminding him of his smuggling pastime. He warned him that both hosts are provided information by the Capital’s top journalists and peacekeepers. Mortimer said, “So, my personal life will no longer be personal.” Gill sadly confirmed and suggested he use his life story to his advantage and lean into the fact he was caught smuggling. Mortimer admitted how as much as he didn’t want to, he had no choice as he knew the importance of sponsors. He dismissed himself to his room to change. A stunned Gill asked Pearl why the sudden change in character. Pearl recalled spotting Cat talking to him, but was too far away to hear their conversation.
Phoebe was happy her tributes scored very well for her district and ordered Capital cake for them. Jack felt relieved for his 6, but expressed how nervous he was for the interview. Phoebe did remind them this was their last chance to make an impression before the arena. Jack complained how easy it would be for Cat as she had a bounty of therapy stories to pull from. Cat told him to not sell himself too short as he did have his girlfriend to talk about. Jack felt better hearing this. He changed the subject, asking if she convinced Mortimer of an alliance. Cat said he rejected the offer but had a strong feeling he would reconsider. When asked to elaborate, Cat explained how she corrected his healing potion and how it led him to a 10. She theorized that behind the standoffish persona was a smart and compassionate man who needed help in more ways than one. Phoebe patted her on the back, claiming to have taught her well. Jack cautiously hoped she was right as he wasn’t planning on confronting the careers or Wolvthorne (7) by himself. Cat jokingly responded, “When all else fails, just do what Oslo did. There will be no lions to stop you.”
The three ate a light dinner before Morrana arrived with their new outfits. She told them the great news of her promotion to Hunger Games designer after Sasha’s suspension from the Hunger Games fashion industry after drunkenly admitting to neglecting her duties. The four celebrated with some fruity nonalcoholic drinks. Jack excused himself and went to the bathroom. He pulled his tiny contraband pouch from his shoe and contemplated taking it. Against his better judgement, he swallowed its contents and flushed the pouch down the sink before rejoining the others.
The interviews came later that evening. Artemis and Luther were giving their opening monologue, quipping back and forth. Luther kept his fingers crossed for this year to give them their next Golden Victor. Artemis played off this, revealing there to be a newly erected council of gamemakers and President Rain himself who would together discuss whether the victor is Golden Victor material. The first round of interviews started off as normal. District 1’s tributes were strong if not slightly cocky. Andrei (2) bragged about his swordsman skills and said he couldn’t wait to cut down certain tributes. He refused to elaborate, claiming it to be a surprise. Vista (3) was a nervous wreck, rattling on about her job of scrapping tech, thus making the audience uncomfortable and wishing the interview over.
The Juicy Tidbits podcast revealed a notable backstage story that took place during the opening monologue. Pearl walked back and forward nervously backstage, prompting Cat to go over to her and assist her in calming her nerves through breathing exercises, introducing herself as a friend of Mortimer. Jack felt immense relief as he had been avoiding her and Phoebe once the warmweed started to kick in. Mortimer skulked in the background picking at the appetizers, watching the interaction with fascination, shutting down Ryetta (9) when she tried talking with him. Fortunately, Cat's breathing exercises worked so when Shoya (3) was applauded, Pearl was ready to jump on to the stage, nearly doing so before she was introduced.
When Capricorn Luther introduced Pearl, she pranced onto the stage wearing a flowing blue dress that started with darker shades at the top with them becoming lighter as they descended down the dress. Artemis complimented the design of the dress, Pearl returning the favor by praising her zebra print dress and Luther's antelope suit. Artemis wondered where her manners came from, calling her the nicest tribute from District 4. Luther attributed this to her waitress job and asked how long she had been working. Pearl explained she waited tables for The Brine ever since she was eleven, assisting her parents in pulling in more customers of her age demographic. Artemis asked whether they find themselves rivalling the Slippery Shell, despite not selling liquor. Pearl confirmed The Brine was labelled as a liquor free zone, which is why it came close to their high revenue. She commented on the lengths her parents went to keep her from the negative influence of alcohol. She went on to share some lighthearted waiting stories, most of them comedic by nature. The audience were entranced by Pearl’s youthful spark and fascinated by the ongoings of the restaurant business in the districts. Luther asked Pearl what she felt about her partner, remarking how he seemed like an interesting character. Pearl agreed he was different from the teens she interacted with, but still regarded him as a good man. She said he could’ve easily snapped at any time, but showed restraint, telling her there was a misunderstood soul under there who needed help in more ways than one. Artemis opened her mouth but caught herself and closed it. A couple analysts spotted this and speculated that she nearly repeated the controversial question she gave Mihika (D10 female tribute) the previous year. Luther thanked her for her time and wished her luck, dismissing her to moderate applause.
Artemis appeared excited to interview the next guest. She described him as a mystery man sporting a sexy frontal tapestry. Mortimer entered the room wearing a seagull grey three piece suit with a capri tie and his once wavy hair gelled and combed back. Audience members noticed an ever so slightly upbeat step in his walk as opposed to his slow trudge. Artemis welcomed him to the stage, saying he made quite the entrance at the train station. Mortimer quipped, “While it wasn’t my choice, I’m still happy to entertain.” Luther decided to get to the point and bluntly asked why his girlfriend Meridia was the only person he interacted with in District 4 besides his father, whispering to the audience she was the one who etched the tattoo. Mortimer said she followed him around for a couple weeks, asking to help him and he let her as he started to fall for her. Artemis remarked, “Makes me sad that her father and half of District 4 thinks you’re a hoodlum.” Mortimer retorted that enough people have screwed him over for him to share common courtesies. Luther diverted the topic to his impressive training score, wondering where his chemistry skills came from. Mortimer said, “Before you bring it up, I will say it outright” admitting to assisting in the smuggling of fish and hooks across the Orkney Stretch in exchange for warmweed, joking “Getting caught wasn’t the highlight of my day either”. He assured everyone he didn’t ingest the drug himself, but learned to separate the SHC (medical component) from the TBA (psychoactive compound) through trial and error, feeding the SHC to his father to relieve his pain. Artemis read a document, stating his father Edward Beckett was a former Faroe Island Base engineer who fractured his back in a work accident and was medically discharged. Luther asked what he would do if he won the games. Mortimer pondered over this and declared he would give his father the proper care he needed and prove to Meridia’s father and all of District 4 he was more than a delinquent with a chip on his shoulder. Artemis said she was rooting for him, dismissing him to rapturous applause, cementing him as a new favorite.
After a mediocre interview with Terry (5), Artemis and Luther welcomed Cat to the stage, using her full first name Catalina. Cat revealed herself, wearing a sparkling amber dress with laced high boots, tiara, and a pair of glasses she specifically requested. As she sat down, she told everyone to call her Cat. Artemis first asked what the glasses were for, Cat playfully saying they made her look smart. Luther brushed past the “How is the Capital?” pleasantries and brought up her job back home. Cat explained to the audience she was a therapist working at her mentor’s Kento Rehabilitation Centre under her tutelage. She considered Phoebe an amazing role model and attributed her people reading skills to her. She even added how her games inspired her to practice the sword. Artemis asked her to tell them something about Phoebe nobody else knows. Cat disclosed that Phoebe’s platinum blonde hair is in fact natural, despite the rumors spread in District 6 and the Capital. She proceeded to highlight her occupation by relaying some patient stories, choosing to not reveal any names for confidentiality purposes. Audience members noticed she never portrayed her patients in a negative light, understanding her compassion for the lowly members of District 6’s society. Artemis commented how her initiative and compassion must attract some cute boys. Cat mentioned how she regrets never asking out one of her coworkers. Luther said she could do so if she wins. Cat made clear she would receive her therapy licence and improve the rehabilitation centre first before worrying about “relationship quarrels”. Artemis remarked, “Go get the bag sis!” Luther dismissed Cat to great applause, many calling her a dark horse.
Jack was the next to be called onto the stage. He stumbled out from under the curtain wearing a basic black and white suit and buckled shoes with the golden chain and top hat being the standouts. While wandering onto the stage, he nearly fell forward but fortunately caught himself. He sat on the chair and told Artemis and Luther to call him Jack. Artemis remarked how much a coincidence it was for two tributes in a row to have nicknames for themselves. Luther appeared slightly suspicious of Jack being unable to keep his head still, noticing it slowly nodding back and forth. He asked him about his life back home, bringing up his refinery work in the hovercraft warehouse. Jack simply stated, “It gets hot in there.” The audience was put off by his demeanor and began to whisper amongst themselves whether he was high despite his previous moments of clarity. Artemis, who was also having second thoughts, diverted to the topic of his girlfriend Tyre. Jack tiredly said she was the only light in his bleak existence. He called out his parents for always being absent and leaving him to his own devices to go get high on warmweed. Luther asked if this was the reason he smuggled warmweed to the Orkney Stretch with the older kids before getting caught. Jack bitterly said someone had to put food on the table, catching his drooping head while saying that statement. Artemis expressed her hopes that he could make it back to Tyre and be together. Jack gave her a death glare and told her he didn’t believe she cared whether he died or not. He boldly stated that if she wanted him to be with Tyre so badly, then he wouldn’t have been reaped in the first place. The second he finished that statement, he threw up all over her shoes, narrowly missing Luther’s. The crowd began booing him and calling for his death in the games. Luther quickly dismissed the boy as he was carried away by peacekeepers. A quick investigation unearthed the flushed pouch and a blood warmweed count (BWC) of 0.05%.
The rest of the interviews went along swimmingly, with Wolvthorne (7) becoming a Capital favorite. Things also became emotional when Mishti (10) cried about missing her pet dog. While Head Gamemaker Grimstone expressed his hopes for a successful games, the tributes returned to their apartment.
Gill congratulated Pearl and Mortimer on their interviews, favorably comparing them to the previous year. Pearl had hopes this would translate to more sponsors, but Gill told her there was no guarantee and it was up to the Capital. Mortimer responded, “Where have I heard that before?” Gill was slightly offended and asked what he meant. Mortimer said he did nothing to help his dad after his accident on the Faroe Island Base. Gill claimed he tried, but he didn’t have jurisdiction outside of the application process. He added that he did offer him independent compensation out of his own pocket but was angrily turned away. Pearl added how her father also wanted to help, calling Mortimer arrogant and selfish. Mortimer tried to object, but Gill warned him to be careful of his words. He claimed to know more about what he’s going through than anyone, citing his former Azores Island Base employed father, once disapproving father-in-law, and self-bestowed status de facto man of the house as proof. Gill then declared, “I admit I haven’t endured the same trials as you, but don’t you dare say I don’t have even a hint of what is going on inside that head. I know exactly who you are, boy! Because you’re me!” Mortimer and Gill stared each other down for what felt like an eternity, the latter standing in absolute shock and silence before responding with, “What a pair we are.” He stormed off into his room and never came out for the remainder of the night. Pearl asked if he would be okay, Gill answering that he’s done all he could for him. Pearl thought there was still hope for him, remembering that he didn’t shut his girlfriend Meridia out.
Back in the District 6 apartment, Phoebe was berating Jack for lying about having warmweed. She revealed he made an absolute fool of himself and was now the least liked tribute of the year. Jack, who was now in withdrawal, tried to apologise in between puking fits. Phoebe said he destroyed his chances of sponsorship and hoped he didn’t ruin Cat’s. Cat pleaded with her to calm down and knelt beside Jack. She patted his back as he returned the last of his dinner. When he was finished, he apologised to everyone and expressed how difficult it was to stave off warmweed. Phoebe’s demeanour softened and assured him she understood more than anyone. Cat told him that regardless, she will be more than happy to fight by his side in the arena. Jack thanked her before retiring to the bathtub. Phoebe expressed her worries about him experiencing withdrawal in the arena. Cat said that he had something she didn’t in her games: someone to watch over him. The two embraced, Phoebe saying she will miss her terribly if she doesn’t make it. Cat promised she would fight her hardest to ensure one of them would make it out. The two were unaware of Jack listening in from behind the cracked door of his room.
The next morning, all tributes were escorted to the holding rooms located in the underbelly of the arena. This year’s arena attire consisted of dark lycra suits with the district numbers on the right breast with black plimsolls for their feet. When Minerva entered Pearl’s holding room, she spotted her staring at her teal blue district number. Minerva assured her everything would be alright and that she believed in her. Pearl shrugged, saying it would be nice to give the Capital another fourteen-year-old victor. Minerva exclaimed, “That’s the spirit!” reminding her she had an excellent ally to help her along. The two gave a final embrace before Pearl entered her tube. Mortimer was visited by Gill and the two were silent for half of the allotted two minutes. Mortimer said he thought everything over and admitted that they were in fact very similar. He commented how he probably should have at least accepted his help. Gill expressed how glad he was for them to have worked things out, commenting how the two could’ve been good friends. Mortimer swore he would try to win, but asked him to promise to kick Adrian Carrack’s ass for him. The two shook on it and Mortimer stepped into his tube.
Phoebe visited Cat in her room, stepping in to see her doing breathing exercises. The two immediately embraced, both shedding some tears. Phoebe lamented not having her good friend let alone her best therapist leaving her. Cat promised she would use everything she taught her to bring herself and Jack to the end. She added that she had someone else who will help her out, hinting at Mortimer. Phoebe promised to take care of her patients and keep an eye on her brother. Cat thanked her and stepped into the tube but not before she said “Avskedslärare’, which in the old Swedish tongue translated to “Goodbye teacher”. As for Jack, he was visited by Morrana. He seemed resigned to the fact Phoebe didn’t visit him, saying he didn’t blame her. Morrana assured him she would’ve come if it were allowed. Jack lamented his newfound infamy, stating how he would have to do something great to redeem himself. Morrana told him he had nothing to prove and that he should focus on trying to win regardless of what other people thought. Jack sighed and thanked her for trying, but he remained unconvinced. He promised to do right by Cat and help her make it to the end. He hugged Morrana, thanking her for stepping up. He stepped into the tube. When all tributes were in the tubes, they all rose into the arena.

2023.05.27 22:20 breemartin Question about roundworms in newly adopted kittens and introduction to my resident cat
Species: Cats
Age: two 8 week old kittens and one 3.5 y.o resident cat
Sex/neuter: resident cat is female and spayed, one male kitten and one female kitten neither is neutered or spayed yet
Breed: resident cat is Bombay, male kitten is tabby, female kitten unsure white with unique black markings
Body weight: as of vet visit three days ago male kitten 2 lbs and female kitten 2.2 lbs
History: kittens mother was either a stray or indoooutdoor cat, kittens were with mom and the resident cat of the household momma cat went to nest/deliver, for first 7 weeks. Yes, I realize it should have been longer but circumstances did not allow for it.
Clinical signs: vet has confirmed both kittens have roundworm, they were administered initial dose of medication at their vet visit three days ago with another dose scheduled two weeks out.
Duration: assumption is roundworms were transferred from the mother
Long story short I have adopted two kitties and took them to the vet for their initial physical and vaccines who diagnosed them with roundworm. The kittens have been separated from my resident cat in another room since I first brought them home. I have been site swapping them by allowing the kittens to roam in other rooms of the house when my resident cat is asleep and in a different room, to assist with the introduction process. I have kept my cat away from their litter box and vice versa, only the kittens share a litter box. Because I couldn’t visually catch which kittens’ stool sample I brought to the vet having not yet identified that their poops are actually a different consistency (female kitten soft stools tannish/yellow in color, male kitten appears to be somewhat constipated with hard, dry, dark stools) the vet assumed both have worms and should be treated. I BELIEVE it was female kitty’s stool sample.
The most physical contact resident cat and kittens have had is some batting of paws under the door and sniffing through a mesh enclosure. I have been examining the kittens stool and I do not see the presence of worms or dead worms from the naked eye. Otherwise, the kittens got a clean bill of health, playing, eating and drinking normally. Male kitty does have an umbilical hernia which is being monitored and scheduled for treatment with his future neutering.
My protocol since yesterday after doing more research has been to scoop as quickly as I can after they poop, use a new disposable litter box with fresh litter every 24 hours, disinfect the scooper with each use, and disinfect the area around the litter box once per day. I am keeping the kittens separated by at a minimum a mesh enclosure until three days after the second dose of medication. I take the kittens out of base camp and put them in a mesh enclosure for about 20 minutes a day so they have the opportunity to spend some time observing resident cat and vice versa a little closer up, but still no physical contact. I will continue to site swap (and scent swap) and allow play under the door as the interest level between the kittens and resident cat is high and I can tell they are getting eager to meet.
I have a few questions:
1.) Any insight into why the kittens’ poop is so different? They eat the same food, drink from the same fountain and use the same litter box. Based on what I’ve described is it possible only one has the worms and whom? This is more about my curiosity as both are being treated. Also what do I do for male kitty’s constipation? He circles the litter box and meows a lot right before going so I assume he is experiencing discomfort. I’ve switched them to the Instinct brand of food from Purina Pro Plan due to higher water content, but thus far no change. They are eating the kitten formulation of course.
2.) Is the way I’ve been handling the site swapping, separation, etc and my plans for the near future ok? Am I being excessive or not cautious enough with my introduction and cleaning protocols?
3.) Delaying their fact to face meeting is getting hard, the cats all seem very eager to meet. Resident cat is not hissing or growling at them, it will be a week on Sunday May 28, they won’t be in the clear based on the medication administration until June 10. Any additional tips here?
4.) Resident cat has her annual vet visit in a few weeks. She will have a fecal flotation done. Should I put her on a roundworm preventative and what would be the ideal time for her fecal flotation? What OTC brand is safe and effective if any? She is exclusively an indoor cat and kittens will be as well.
5.) Kitties are still having some trouble with covering their business in the litter box. They make the scratching motion but aren’t being diligent to ensure coverage. When I catch it happening, I encourage the offending kitty by picking them up, bringing them back to the litter box, and doing the motion of covering with their own paws for them. Is this the correct method? Will they eventually improve? Female kitty with the soft stools is the biggest offender here, male kitty is a little more fastidious with his cleaning. Momma cat was not great with litter box use, so I’m not sure they picked up the skill lol.
Thank you!

2023.05.27 21:50 UnderstandingLow929 Any thoughts?
Yesterday I had to put my cat to sleep. It all went very fast, i thought it was a little something, and it turned out to be a late stage of leucosia. It was the first time I had to make such a dicision, and it was a hard one. I guess this is never pretty, but now I am left with a feeling that is so wrong!
First of all, when I made the appointment I could already notice that it was extremely busy at the vet's. This is understandable, but first we got promised that the euthanasia would happen at home, and then all of a sudden it couldn't. That was already not nice. (Reason being: home euthanasia only done with dogs) But we agreed to bring the cat to the office, okay. We had to wait 15min in a very full waiting room, mostly dogs there, the cat was very scared. People were smiling and making jokes in there, also not nice. When we came in the vets office, she was already preparing the injection, without any explanation she was just going to put it, if I didn't ask what was going to happen first!! She only said hi and that was it! Then my cat was very stressed and afraid, and screaming and fighting. She had to try 3 times, and then called in an assistant with very long leather gloves, it was not a pretty sight. To see your cat being handled in that way the last moments of her life. 😰😰
Then when she had the first injection, the vet was already asking if we wanted cremation. I understand that these things are a routine for a veterinarian, but that was exactly what it sounded like, routine question. When I was actually still in disbelief that my cat was incurably ill. It all went just to fast for me.
I could sense the vet was "trying" to be nice, Bc I wanted to make an imprint of the paw as a memory, but the clay that I brought was to hard ect. Didn't work. And so she went upstairs to get paper and ink. But still I am left with a feeling of wrongness. She was saying take your time, But she was nervously walking in and out the office. I can't explain it. It feels wrong.
As if she was not experienced enough. Also with putting the injection, I had the feeling she didn't know how to fixate a cat properly. I was trembling and to emotional.
Now, should I call back the office and say something about this? Is there anything I can do? Could I have demanded that it should happen at home? Ibalso think this feeling of disbelief and injustice is part of the process. Any other experiences in this matter? Any veterinarians in the room?
Thanks already ❤️

2023.05.27 21:34 Key-Win7744 Your thoughts on "Alice in Wonderland" (1951)
https://preview.redd.it/cgpkntvjwg2b1.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=133a5153a4963a5bafffc82eed7dbfbf30aebae2 Overview Walt Disney had wanted to put an adaptation of
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland on the big screen for years, but things kept getting in the way; things like competing adaptations, and bankruptcy, and Hitler. Finally, in 1951, Alice got out the door. Surprising as it seems today, however,
Alice in Wonderland was met with a mixed reception. Not only did it underperform financially, but many critics took it to task for being too far removed from the spirit of the book. It wouldn't see a theatrical reissue until 1974, well after Walt's death.
Point by Point - The opening credits are nice, resplendent with colorful drawings of the weird characters we're about to meet, with the lilting song 'Alice in Wonderland' playing over them. The film starts out very vibrant and colorful, even in the real world. Then the descent down the extradimensional rabbit hole is replete with interesting visuals.
- I don't have quite as much to say about Alice in Wonderland, as it lacks a strong narrative (Alice basically just bumbles from one absurd episode to the next) and doesn't manage anything truly groundbreaking on the technological side. It's a fun time, though, and Alice is likable and sympathetic enough to endear her to us, even if her conflict is pretty two-dimensional.
- I'd say the episode in the garden full of talking flowers is the first really impressive sequence, with bright visuals, sight gags aplenty, and the song 'All in the Golden Afternoon'. This leads directly into Alice's encounter with the Caterpillar, who smokes a hookah and speaks like Peter Sellers playing Inspector Clouseau. His habit of creating midair constructs from smoke allows for plenty of humor.
- The Mad Tea Party is easily one of the best sequences in the entire film; a smorgasbord of jokes and visual gags. It goes all in on the lunacy and really sells it.
- Going from the dark forest to the brightness of the Queen's garden makes for a tonal shift that I found to evoke excitement and suspense, even though I knew full well what was going to happen next. 'Painting the Roses Red' is catchy, followed by the visually striking sequence of the procession of playing cards entering the garden ahead of the Queen. The croquet game is likewise entertaining, although the trial that follows is a bit tedious. (Maybe it's because my first exposure to Alice in Wonderland was the heavily edited version broadcast on TV, but I'm ready for the final chase to commence right after the Cheshire Cat flips the Queen onto her head.)
- The climactic chase sequence is frantic and manic, with reappearances by many of the memorable characters we've met on Alice's adventure, culminating with the revelation that this has all been a dream and that Alice is simply asleep. It's a good way of wrapping things up.
In Conclusion Alice in Wonderland isn't among the strongest films in the WDAS canon, but it's certainly not among the weakest either. It's fun and colorful, with some interesting characters and some good music. I guess I'd put it just above
Dumbo for now, but keep in mind that almost all of these movies are good, and do not sit vast distances away from their immediate neighbors in my ranking.
Current Ranking - Pinocchio
- Bambi
- Cinderella
- Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
- Alice in Wonderland
- Dumbo
- The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad
- Fantasia
- Melody Time
- Fun and Fancy Free
- The Three Caballeros
- Make Mine Music
- Saludos Amigos

2023.05.27 21:30 buffystan Should I get another cat when I move out? My cat is a bit anxious and irritable.
I’m very worried my cat will feel neglected when I eventually will live on my own (probably in a couple years). She’s two are very temperamental. Sometimes she ignores me for a long time and often gets annoyed with me (I can tell because she gives me a warning meow and uses her paw to gently push me away). I know cats all have different personalities but I worry about her. I’m just so scared she’ll get so lonely and then in turn be more angry with me. She loves guests but I have no idea how she is with other animals. I got her when she was 9 months old and she was a stray before that. I wish I knew how to help her or know what she wants. Is getting a second cat when she grows up a little more a bad idea?

2023.05.27 20:37 NamelessNanashi [The Gods of Dragons: Beginning] Ch 8 - To Love the Gods
---
Table of Contents ---
Autumn 4983, 20 Shinmoth Shon stirred awake before the servant came in, but kept his eyes closed, slowly wiggling fingers and toes, waiting for her to gently shake him. He needed to confirm this wasn’t just an extension of the very lifelike dream he'd been having. She used the tips of her fingers to quickly shake him, pulling sharply back when Shon twitched away.
She stepped back and Shon rolled towards her to sit up. He blinked as she brought her finger to her lips. She didn’t usually bother, after two years all the servants knew Shon was more than capable of letting the others sleep for a few more hours. He glanced over his shoulder, towards the reason for her added caution. Only recently moved out of the nursery, the newest boy snuffled restlessly.
Nodding to the maid, Shon moved slowly, though it probably didn’t matter. The dorms kept the eldest near the door, the boys getting younger as the long hall-like room reached towards the window. As the youngest, the new boy had only two empty beds between him and the glass window, while Shon's spot was nearly to the door.
As Shon slipped on his boots, the maid shivered, breathing on her hands and turning away. He narrowed his eyes as she left then looked towards the window beyond the restless boy. Snow was falling beyond the glass. Shon rolled his eyes, reaching for the box below his bed and pulling out his short cloak, just long enough to cover his shoulders and arms. He would be expected to wear
something extra now that it was officially snowing. He really didn’t see the point. It wasn’t
that cold. But the others always looked at him funny, and the priests would yell about him getting sick. So rather than argue, Shon did as he was told.
The new boy whined in his sleep while Shon finished making his bed, and the oldest curled tighter into his blankets, stopping Shon before he could pass and leave. Glancing over his shoulder, Shon sighed and returned to pull the blanket off his bed. Folding it just enough not to drag on the ground, he tip-toed down the central hall of the dorm before slowly and carefully draping it over the youngest. His whimpers settled shortly after, and Shon shook his head. He would have to remember to grab one of the spare blankets before anyone noticed his was missing.
Leaving the dorm, Shon didn’t try to be as quiet in the halls. Servants scuttled about in their early morning duties, lighting candles and torches, getting everything ready for when the rest of the church began to wake for the day.
The head cook returned Shon’s nod when he entered the kitchen, going back to kneading the morning bread as Shon started his chores. This was the agreement they'd come to when he'd asked that they wake him up early. Every day he would get up hours before the other children and help prep the dining area for breakfast. It was simple work that he finished quickly, but it still freed up an extra servant to work the ovens.
When finished, Shon walked through the kitchens again, waving at the cook to let him know he was done before exiting into the courtyard for the real work of the morning. Soft snow floated lazily down between the naked branches of the central tree, dusting the ground like fine sugar on an expensive sweet roll. Shon hardly noticed the snow, reaching his usual practice area and breathing deep before sinking into his low stance to start his most basic drills.
This time of year, it would be hours before the sun rose, and though there were no lights in the courtyard, he didn’t need to see. Shon closed his eyes as he worked his muscles awake, breathing in the crisp icy air and feeling it invigorate him in a way that rarely happened during the warmer months. He thought of Master Veon-Zih, imagining the Monk standing beside him, matching his punches and kicks, occasionally offering a small lesson during the warmup. ‘
Imagine your opponent with each punch. Where are you hitting? Be sure to aim through them, so you don’t stop short with barely a tap…’ His Master wasn’t here, though he was expected to arrive sometime this week. Still, Shon could see the man clearly in his mind’s eye as he worked, sweat beginning to bead on his head and neck.
He moved from the simple drills onto his kata. Working through the fighting forms and taking his teacher’s past advice, picturing his opponent with each strike. He tried not to let his mind wander as his muscles moved almost on their own. Over two years of going through the same motions every day had made them automatic, requiring him to focus harder now than when he'd first begun to stay in the moment.
His birthday was only a few months away, and it would be the last he spent in the church…
No, focus. His sweeping kick landed on an imaginary adversary at just the right spot in the middle of the shin, causing him to fall forward, perfectly in line for Shon’s next punch.
On the Spring Equinox, he would take the test to join the Temple. Everything else beyond depended on that…
FOCUS! Shon let slip a growl of frustration at himself, finishing his kata and starting the same again. He wouldn’t move on until he could maintain his concentration through this one.
Only one season until the rest of his life. Whatever that would be…
The snow was distracting him, it marked the start of winter better than the calendar. Shon stopped his kata, breathing deep and looking into the sky. The stars would be shining beyond the clouds, though they would fade soon as the sun slowly began to rise. He would go to the Temple again today. While the others tried to impress the Weavers Guild in the hopes of getting an apprenticeship with one of the trades after reaching maturity, he would pray. Though if that actually helped, he didn’t know. Was he making the right choice? Should he instead focus on something more practical? Or something he already had skill in? Gaven seemed to think Shon could make it as an artist at a Bard's College…
Shaking his head, Shon resumed his stance, taking an extra moment to breathe deep. In through his nose, then out his pursed lips. He'd been slated for the Temple. Everyone said so. But more than that, something deep in his chest cried out with a need to serve, to fight. Nothing better encapsulated that drive than an Hengist Paladin.
Shon started his kata again.
***
Veon-Zih found Shon in Hengist's chapel. Though the most decorative of the rooms in the Temple, even it was considered utilitarian compared to the worship halls of Soleil and most of the other gods. Stone walls were lined with alternating windows and niches, the latter containing scale statues of Hengist's Chosen. Pews were separated on each side by a simple blue carpet leading from the door and officer's balcony to the altar with its blue and silver tapestry of an upright sword.
With no sermon scheduled the chapel was nearly empty. A young Paladin stood guard at the entrance while a priest dusted statues, and Shon sat alone in a central pew, head bowed. The knight nodded silently to Veon-Zih as he entered and made his way down the main aisle to pay his respects at the altar. The priest rushed forward to grant the Monk a quick blessing before he made his way toward Shon.
Sliding into the boy’s pew, Veon-Zih saw Shon didn’t have his head down in prayer. Instead, his ever-present journal was spread across his knees as he drew. Veon-Zih snuck a peek at the drawing. It was more elaborate than anything Shon usually drew. He had already finished a decorative border, that consisted of each of the knights lining the walls, and was just putting in the fine details of the man in the center, the god himself, Hengist.
“You didn’t want to join the others at the Weavers?” Veon-Zih spoke softly, not quite a whisper, but not loud enough to disturb the chapel's peace.
With his characteristic silence, Shon merely shrugged and nodded to confirm the observation.
“I’m sorry I didn’t make it in time for morning exercises. After a few months away, I’m sure you're eager to continue your lessons?” Veon-Zih had warned Shon that this last journey would keep him away far longer than any of his previous missions. With no new evidence surfacing of possible Warlocks in Clearhelm, he'd run out of excuses to stay away from his Monastery. Whoever these magic users were, and whatever they were doing, they were able to stay hidden for years at a time.
In the meantime, for the first time in nearly forty years, Veon-Zih had spent his time between missions in one place. Training Shon.
Branston had made the observation that Shon seemed to be opening up to Veon-Zih in a way the Cleric hadn’t seen before. Veon-Zih disagreed. The longer he spent with the strangely silent and stoic boy, the more Veon-Zih realized that Shon wasn’t as closed off as Father Branston’s statement implied. Most people just didn’t know how to approach him or translate his silent cues.
In answer to Veon-Zih’s question, Shon looked up from his drawing, meeting the Monk’s eyes and nodding resolutely. Veon-Zih didn’t bother to hide his smile and returned the nod, watching as Shon returned to his drawing. He could appreciate the simplicity of the boy’s communication. It wasn’t so much that he didn’t want to talk at all, just that he didn’t see the point in answering verbally when it wasn’t necessary. All you had to do to get him to talk was ask a question that needed words to answer…
“Why Hengist?”
The light scratching of pencil on paper stopped, the chapel ringing with silence at its absence. “He protects.” Shon’s voice was a soft whisper in the stillness of the worship hall, “Everyone is worth protecting, and it’s the duty of those who can fight to protect those who can’t.” he looked up, focusing on the tapestry and the altar, “I…” he faltered, “I want to be like that, like him.”
“You don’t have to be a Paladin to do that,” Veon-Zih said. He hadn’t tried to convince Shon to abandon his goal and join him. Often, he wanted to, but whenever he thought to try, he would see that look in the boy’s ice-blue eyes. The intensity and… longing, and Veon-Zih’s voice would die in his throat.
Shon didn’t look away from the tapestry, “But…” the chapel doors opened, and Shon turned with Veon-Zih to watch another young boy, no older than Shon, enter with his parents. They were obviously well off, possibly even noble, their clothing the height of fashion and well-made of expensive fabric. The father passed the boy something, and he walked alone down the central aisle. He met Shon’s gaze, the two exchanging a nod as he continued towards the altar, where he made his offering and received a blessing before turning to leave again.
“A friend of yours?” Veon-Zih asked once the doors had closed behind the family.
Shon shook his head, going back to his drawing. Veon-Zih tapped him on the shoulder and arched a questioning eyebrow when Shon looked up. Shon shrugged, “He comes almost every time I’m here, makes a large offering, and leaves.” he sighed and looked toward the altar again, “He wants to be a Paladin, but you can’t buy your way into the order.”
“Hengist accepts all willing and able to serve,” Veon-Zih quoted. Though people often forgot that not just anyone was ‘able’ no matter how willing. “You were going to say something else,” the Monk prompted, “before your friend so rudely interrupted.”
Shon narrowed his eyes, moving his pencil away from the drawing and tapping it absently on the opposite page, “I don’t know.” he finally said, “I’ve tried to describe it, but I can’t find the words…” he starting drawing again but continuing to speak, “I feel like this is what I’m supposed to do. Like there's something inside me that reaches out for it. Whenever I try to imagine myself older, I’m always a Paladin, serving the people and fighting evil. I’ve drawn this picture of myself, and I can’t erase it. It just feels… right.”
He took a moment to finish his drawing, paying close attention to each detail, going back and adding shading and texture so the art seemed to come alive in a way even the statues couldn’t achieve with their added dimension. “Paladins…” Shon muttered, finally setting his pencil down, “They're never alone. Hengist is always with them, even in the darkest times and most dire situations. The gods love us, they made us, but only the Paladins and Clerics ever truly
feel it.”
Veon-Zih felt guilty. He'd taken many missions from both the Temple and Church, so he spent as much time out of the city as in it. The boy never seemed to begrudge him, appearing to enjoy the stories and lessons Veon-Zih would bring back. Shon often spent time alone, but the Monk had thought it was of his own choosing, preferring to read or draw than play with the others of his age. Had he actually been lonely all this time?
“You would hardly be alone at the Monastery. It's fairly bursting with Monks who share your passions and interests in the art-” but Shon was shaking his head, slowly working the finished page out of his journal.
“It’s not the same. People… people are annoying. They always want to talk while you’re busy. They get upset when you don’t answer right away or with what they want to hear. Even some of the gods would want me to change, to better fit what they teach, just like people. But Hengist… I already believe what he teaches. It just fits.” Shon ran his fingers over the drawing and that small smile Veon-Zih loved so much colored his features, “Discipline, service, honor. He wouldn’t be uncomfortable. If I could reach out and touch him, he wouldn’t pull away…” his smile faded, and Shon shook his head as if to dismiss that particular thought.
“Hey,” Veon-Zih reached over, patting Shon’s hand. The boy’s skin was cold, not unusual considering the weather but made strange in the heated chapel. But he didn’t pull away, “Why don’t we learn something fun and impressive today?”
Shon looked up sharply, his eyes wide and eager, then, with some concentration, he arched a black eyebrow. The Monk had to stifle a chuckle, saying, “It’s rather inefficient to have to climb back to your feet if you fall down, and downright deadly in battle, but there's a nifty little technique you can use to jump from your back to your feet in an instant!” he stood as he spoke and Shon jumped up after him, still a child despite the earlier seriousness.
Exiting the pew, Veon-Zih bowed respectfully to the altar while Shon shuffled past, walking to the altar and laying down his drawing reverently as an offering. One might not be able to buy themselves into the order, but it didn't hurt to try.

“I think I hate the gods…” She sat on the floor with Her back against the locked door of Her room. A book rested on Her bent knees, and She stroked Her hair over Her shoulder. It was finally the length She liked, meaning they were probably going to cut it today…
“Careful saying such things Red,” Ran spoke from the other side of the door, “they might decide to smite you.”
She scoffed, tossing the hair back over Her shoulder and leaning forward as the lock clicked, “What are they going to do? Make this somehow even more boring?” She pushed against the door as Ran tried to open it, snickering as he struggled to push Her weight. “Inryuu won’t take me because I’m too good, and Yoryuu won’t have me because I’m too bad.”
“Red…” Ran said disapprovingly.
“I guess she doesn’t want to see the puppies after all…” Brom’s voice. She could practically feel his shrug, and She scrambled forward on Her hands and knees, letting the book, ‘Gods of Dragons and Men,’ tumble open to the floor.
She jumped to Her feet with an extra hop and spin toward the open door, causing Her dress to swirl around Her knees, “She had them? How many?” She bounced on the balls of Her feet, clutching Her curled fingers to Her lips in barely contained exuberance.
Ran chuckled, holding the door open while Brom made a sweeping gesture towards the hall, “After you, Firewyrm.” With that, She ran past them both and down the only hall. She managed to slow somewhat before passing the first open door, its tables filled with bottles of glowing liquid and colorful stones. The Archmage looked up from his massive tome to watch Her pass. She waved at him, giggling as Brom and Ran stuttered their apologies in a rush to keep up with Her.
The next few doors were closed, but from the last came the shuffling of many pawed feet and the quiet mews and yips of Her treasures. She smiled at each of them as she entered, but was pulled inevitably towards the only open cage and the other Archmage blocking Her view of it. She squeezed past Archmage Shaloon and gasped at the golden wolf with her five shimmering puppies, crowded around her belly, fighting each other for prime spots and suckling eagerly.
“Oh,” She cooed. Dropping to Her knees, She stroked the mother’s head, “You did such a good job. They're so cute.”
“Hmm,” Shaloon pursed her lips, muttering, “We will see.” then louder, “Where are Ran and Brom?”
“Here, Archmage…” Ran puffed as he rounded into the room.
“The Firewyrm is not to be left alone,” she snapped at them while the Firewyrm in question scratched the golden wolf’s chin.
“They were right behind me,” She said absently, sitting back on Her heels and cupping Her hands before Her. In Her palms, She summoned a little fire and spoke to the wolf, “I made something for you to chase when you feel better…” She focused on the fire, shaping its heart with Her will...
Archmage Shaloon took Her by the wrist, breaking Her focus as she pulled the girl to Her feet, “Not now, Firewyrm, we are short on samples. You two,” she let go of the girl's hot skin and turned back to Brom and Ran who stiffened, “Blood and saliva.”
“And hair?” Ran asked, taking the girl gingerly by the shoulders.
Shaloon waved a dismissive hand as he led the Firewyrm away from the wolf and her new puppies towards another door, “We have enough for now.”
The Firewyrm did a little happy dance. No hair and no scales! It was indeed a good day. Though even that good news couldn’t bring too much spring into Her step as Brom opened the door, and Ran ushered Her into the lab usually used for taking samples from Her treasures. It was even smaller than Her room, holding only a tall cabinet, a wooden stand with jars, tubes, and vials, and a steel table with heavy leather straps dangling from the sides.
Dutifully She moved to the table and clamored on. Laying down and staring at the stones of the ceiling, She tried not to listen too carefully to the clanking of glass and creaking of wood as Brom and Ran busied themselves getting ready. At least they weren’t going to cut Her hair.
They didn’t strap Her down. They hadn’t needed to for many years. Brom approached Her left side, lifting Her limp arm and examining the fold of Her elbow with a hum, “Still bruised, better use the right side this time Ran.”
She closed Her eyes, listening to the soft rustle of Ran’s robes as he rounded the table to lift Her right arm. The cold cleaning agent made Her twitch, and She focused on trying not to flinch as the long needle entered Her vein, trying to breathe through the discomfort as a pulling sensation accompanied the taking of Her blood sample.
“Open up, Goldy,” Brom stood at Her head, and She obeyed, taking a large swab in Her mouth and soaking it with spit before he pulled it out and replaced it with another. She didn’t bother to count them or try to keep track of the time. It always seemed to go so much slower whenever She did. Instead, She thought about Her newest treasures.
Ever since She'd first been allowed to help care for the other subjects of the tower, She'd claimed them as Her own. They were a strange and beautiful lot, predatory animals with metallic fur or gem-colored scales. This generation was still healthy, but She knew they would grow sickly the older they got, their bodies unable to handle their own power. She couldn’t do anything about it, so She focused on keeping them as healthy and happy as She could for the time She had them. Until the next generation was bred.
The newest puppies were a variety of red scales or gold fur, just like Her. Maybe they would survive longer. After all,
She was perfectly healthy…
She grew drowsy, Her hand going numb as Ran continued to take his samples. Her mouth was dry enough to feel as though it were still stuffed with cotton even after Brom had stopped giving Her swabs to soak. “I want to play with them… before… I go back…” She gasped out, opening Her eyes to see Brom shake his head at Her.
“For a little while, maybe…” he answered. She smiled. It was the best She was going to get. They were always too busy to let Her out for long on sample days. Tomorrow, perhaps the day after, She would be given more time...
She jerked awake as Ran slid the needle from Her arm, “All done, Red. Don’t sit up too fast.” She didn’t sit up at all, rolling off of the table and climbing to Her feet, eager to get back to Her treasures before being forced to Her room. She felt a bit woozy and hadn’t intended to fall asleep but tried not to show it as Brom opened the door for Her to sprint out.
Archmage Morndancer had joined Archmage Shaloon. They stood together outside the wolf’s stall, “Useless…” Morndancer muttered, holding a puppy with glints of gold fur beneath each of its red scales.
“Perhaps it will better show the relationship between-” Shaloon started only to be interrupted by the puppy squealing and wiggling in Morndancer's suddenly tight fist.
“We’ve seen it a hundred times before,” he snapped at his colleague, “It will grow, but it can not breed. Can not evolve or further our efforts.” They hadn’t noticed the Firewyrm. She slowed, eyes fixed on the struggling captive pup. “Useless…” Morndancer said again, then threw the puppy at the far wall.
Its yip was silenced by a sickening crunch and wet plop as it bounced off the wall and landed unmoving on the floor.
The Firewyrm screamed.
She was still dizzy, but She lunged for Morndancer anyway. He disappeared beneath her clawing fingers, reappearing further away. Her neck itched, and Fire flickered at the hem of his robes, spreading to the pile of straw used to pad the cages.
“Red, don’t…” someone grabbed Her shoulders but let go immediately, cursing in pain at the heat causing Her hair to undulate in the shifting waves.
“Firewyrm, calm down,” Shaloon ordered, stepping between Her and Morndancer, who was trying to pat the spreading fire out of his robes. Her heart pounded in Her ears. crimson bleeding into Her vision, narrowing Her focus on the man who had so callously killed one of Her treasures. Her arm tingled and Her neck itched. Her vision wavered, She was too dizzy, too drained.
Fingers snapped, and She couldn’t breathe. She clawed at the tightening collar around Her neck, Her fires going out in a blink as She fought for air that wouldn’t come. The voices around Her seemed to come from far away, their words barely registering, “If she has enough energy for this, then obviously we have been skimping on samples.” She couldn’t see, couldn’t breathe, couldn’t even cry out as the collar continued to squeeze, “Take her back, we can never have enough blood. And cut that damn hair…”
***
Her head hurt. She squeezed Her eyes shut tighter, but that only made the pounding worse. Struggling to move Her fingers, She eventually managed to lift Her hand only to flinch as the move put pressure on Her sore elbow, Her left side. They had drained Her on both sides the second time then. She moved past the pain and brought Her hand up to pat Her head. Her hair was shorn short, right up against the scalp.
Letting slip a groan, She rolled over and flinched violently as the shift put pressure on Her left upper arm. They had taken a large patch of red scales as well, ripping them free by the root. She finally managed to squint Her eyes open to find She was back in Her room. The only light the shine of the moon reflecting off the snow through Her window. She looked at Her candles, but they wouldn’t light, and Her head pounded harder.
Curling into a tight ball, She tried to scan the rest of Her room, but it was empty. The books and comfortable chair, gone. Squeezing Her eyes shut again, She cried silently, the pitiful yip of Her lost treasure ringing in Her ears. “I hate the gods…”
