2023.06.01 17:01 Salty-Negotiation259 I need some help. I am spiraling.

Hello everyone.
I’ve been diagnosed with OCD for a few years now. Throughout my previous relationship, I have suffered from extreme cheating OCD. But there is a reality in where I have made poor and promiscuous choices in the past due to my alcohol addiction.
My partner recently broke up with me and I’ve been analyzing every interaction and trying to analyze my intentions. Some of my guilt is real and not driven by OCD. But a lot of it is driven by False Memory OCD.
This weekend, he broke up with me. I was drunk and after the breakup, I asked my best friend to sleep in my bed with me. I fear I did have bad intentions and I can’t stop worrying about it. I feel horrible because it’s one of the reasons we broke up in the first place: poor boundaries.
I know we were broken up but my OCD is in full overdrive. My body is on fire and I feel pure guilt about my intentions. I often have pulsing and intrusive sexual thoughts when I’m around strangers and friends.
Nothing happened nor was I acting inappropriately outside of the question itself. But I’m panicking about what my true intentions were. I feel deep down maybe I did want more because I was feeling so upset about the breakup. And I felt like I needed closeness with a friend.
Please help. Thank you.

2023.06.01 17:01 kungfu_lady Survey about college access for those who speak English as a second language and live in the U.S

Hi everyone! I'm writing my master's thesis, and I need some data! My survey asks questions to help determine why people who speak English as a second language have lower rates of college attendance and graduation. I currently work in higher ed, and the college I work for has little support for ESL students. My research aims to surmise if lack of resources in colleges or in college preparation may be a large contributing factor in those lower rates of college attendance.

Thank you!

2023.06.01 17:01 160493f What's wrong with my nails?

I am a F(30) overall healthy, I am 5ft 7in and weight about 130lbs. A few months ago I started using gel polish in my nails, the kind that gets cured with an UV led lamp. Everything seemed fine until one time I got some polish in my cuticles and I had an allergic reaction, my hands were swollen and extremely itchy. I removed the polish and applied some steroid cream and it went away. After a few weeks I applied the gel polish again and this time it was fine. A few manicures later I began having solln and itchy cuticles so I decided to not use the gel polish anymore. I spent weeks without applying any sort of polish to my nails and then went back to regular manicures. My nails have Sence recovered and become stronger. They were very thin and chipping. However two weeks ago I started noticing a weird coloration in some of them and now they seem to be detaching from the skin under them. It does not hurt or anything but it is spreading and now the nails that looked healthy are having the same issue.

2023.06.01 17:01 ahmad_mosavee Do People with ADHD Have Difficulty with Eye Contact?

Do People with ADHD Have Difficulty with Eye Contact?
People who have ADHD often struggle with maintaining eye contact, and this can affect how they interact with others.
These difficulties arise from challenges related to attention, sensory sensitivities, and difficulties with executive functioning. However, there are strategies that can be helpful in improving eye contact skills.
Therapeutic interventions like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and behavioral interventions like applied behavior analysis (ABA) have been shown to be effective in developing these skills.
Social skills training programs are also available to provide individuals with ADHD with the necessary tools to navigate social interactions successfully.
Some tips for effective communication include understanding nonverbal cues, actively listening to others, and fostering empathy and connection. With the right support and strategies, individuals with ADHD can make progress in improving their eye contact and enhancing their social interactions. This article from BrianBoostToday explores the relationship between ADHD and difficulties with eye contact, shedding light on the underlying factors and providing strategies to improve eye contact skills.

Impact of ADHD on Social Interactions

Individuals with ADHD often experience challenges in social interactions. They may struggle with maintaining focus during conversations, regulating their impulses, and understanding nonverbal cues, including eye contact. These difficulties can impact their ability to connect with others effectively.

Eye Contact and ADHD

Significance of Eye Contact

Eye contact serves as a crucial nonverbal communication tool. It helps convey interest, attentiveness, and understanding in social interactions. Establishing and maintaining eye contact fosters connection and effective communication.

Challenges with Eye Contact in ADHD

People with ADHD may experience difficulties in maintaining consistent eye contact. These challenges can arise due to various factors, including attention difficulties, sensory sensitivities, and executive functioning deficits. As a result, individuals with ADHD may appear disinterested or unfocused during conversations.

Neurobiological Factors

Research suggests that neurobiological factors contribute to the difficulties individuals with ADHD face in maintaining eye contact. Neurotransmitter imbalances and differences in brain regions involved in attention and social processing may play a role in these challenges.

Social and Emotional Factors

Social Anxiety and Eye Contact

Individuals with ADHD may also experience social anxiety, which can further impact their ability to engage in eye contact. The fear of judgment or rejection may lead to avoidance of eye contact as a self-protective mechanism.

Impulsivity and Eye Contact

The impulsivity characteristic of ADHD can affect eye contact. Individuals with ADHD may struggle to control their impulsive behaviors, which can result in erratic eye contact or a tendency to avoid eye contact altogether.

Emotional Regulation and Eye Contact

Difficulties with emotional regulation, another common aspect of ADHD, can influence eye contact. Heightened emotional states may make it challenging for individuals with ADHD to maintain steady eye contact as their attention becomes directed towards managing their internal emotional experiences.

Strategies for Improving Eye Contact

Therapy and Skill Development

Therapeutic interventions, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), can be beneficial for individuals with ADHD. Therapy focuses on developing skills related to attention, impulse control, and social interactions, including eye contact.

Behavioral Interventions

Behavioral interventions aim to reinforce desired behaviors and reduce unwanted behaviors. Applied behavior analysis (ABA) techniques and structured interventions can help individuals with ADHD improve their eye contact skills.

Social Skills Training

Social skills training programs can provide individuals with ADHD the necessary tools to navigate social interactions successfully. These programs often include specific modules on eye contact and nonverbal communication.

Tips for Effective Communication

Understanding Nonverbal Cues

Developing an understanding of nonverbal cues, including eye contact, is crucial for effective communication. Practicing awareness and learning to interpret nonverbal signals can enhance social interactions for individuals with ADHD.
There are several ways to improve your understanding of nonverbal cues. some tips include:
  • Building your emotional intelligence to better decode verbal and nonverbal messages.
  • Developing active listening skills to better understand what others are communicating.
  • Paying attention to nonverbal signals such as body movements, eye contact, gestures, posture, and tone of voice.
  • Looking for discrepancies between a person’s words and their nonverbal behaviors.
  • Strengthening your cultural intelligence to better understand how nonverbal cues vary across cultures.
  • Focusing on tone of voice, which can convey a wealth of information.
You can become more adept at interpreting nonverbal cues and enhancing your communication ability with practice.

Active Listening and Engagement

Active listening involves giving full attention to the speaker, maintaining eye contact, and responding appropriately. Learning active listening skills can help individuals with ADHD become more engaged in conversations and establish stronger connections.

Building Empathy and Connection

Empathy plays a vital role in building meaningful connections with others. Developing empathy skills involves considering others’ perspectives, recognizing emotions, and responding empathetically. These skills can enhance social interactions and improve eye contact.

In conclusion, individuals with ADHD may experience challenges with eye contact due to a combination of neurobiological and social factors.
However, with the right strategies, therapy, and support, it is possible to improve eye contact skills and enhance social interactions for individuals with ADHD.

  • Can eye contact difficulties be improved in individuals with ADHD?
Yes, eye contact difficulties can be improved in individuals with ADHD. It requires a combination of therapeutic interventions, behavioral strategies, and social skills training. Therapy, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), can help individuals with ADHD develop skills related to attention, impulse control, and social interactions, including eye contact. Behavioral and structured interventions, such as applied behavior analysis (ABA), can reinforce desired behaviors and reduce unwanted behaviors. Social skills training programs for individuals with ADHD can provide tools and techniques to improve eye contact and overall social interactions.
  • What are some practical strategies for promoting eye contact in individuals with ADHD?
Several practical strategies can help promote eye contact in individuals with ADHD. These include:
  1. Encouraging active listening and engagement in conversations, which involves maintaining eye contact with the speaker.
  2. Practice eye contact in controlled and comfortable settings, such as with close friends or family members, before gradually increasing the difficulty level.
  3. Breaking down eye contact into manageable steps and setting achievable goals.
  4. Providing positive reinforcement and rewards for maintaining eye contact during interactions.
  5. Use visual aids or cues, such as drawing eyes on a card or using eye stickers, to remind individuals to focus on eye contact.
  • Are there alternative forms of communication for individuals with severe eye contact difficulties?
Yes, for individuals with severe eye contact difficulties, alternative forms of communication can be used to supplement or replace traditional eye contact. Some alternatives include:
  1. Using social scripts or written prompts to facilitate communication and interaction.
  2. Using augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices or apps that allow individuals to express themselves through visual or written means.
  3. Encouraging individuals to use gestures, body language, and facial expressions as substitutes for eye contact.
  4. Exploring assistive technologies, such as communication boards or speech-generating devices, to support communication needs.
  • How can parents and teachers support individuals with ADHD in social interactions?
Parents and teachers are crucial in supporting individuals with ADHD in social interactions. Some ways to provide support include:
  1. Educating themselves about ADHD and its impact on social interactions.
  2. Creating a supportive and inclusive environment that values individual differences.
  3. Through explicit instruction and practice, teaching and reinforcing social skills, including eye contact.
  4. Collaborating with professionals, such as therapists or school counselors, to develop personalized strategies and accommodations.
  5. Encouraging peer relationships and providing opportunities for social engagement, such as group activities or clubs.
  • What role does therapy play in addressing eye contact difficulties in individuals with ADHD?
Therapy, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), plays a significant role in addressing eye contact difficulties in individuals with ADHD.
Therapists can help individuals with ADHD develop self-awareness, understand the challenges associated with eye contact, and learn strategies to improve their skills. CBT can address underlying factors contributing to eye contact difficulties, such as attention deficits, impulse control, and social anxiety.
Therapists can also support and guide individuals and their families in navigating social interactions and building meaningful connections.
Note: The answers above are for informational purposes only and should not replace professional advice. Individuals with ADHD should consult healthcare professionals or specialists for personalized guidance and recommendations.

2023.06.01 17:01 Wolverine1621 Minichamps delivery estimates

Hey all, just a quick question - haven't ordered an F1 model before but I recently went to the Miami GP and was thinking of picking up the 1:18 Minichamps model with the special livery to commemorate it. says that the estimated delivery date is Q4 2023 but I've heard of a lot of delays from Minichamps - are those delivery dates often accurate, or is that incredibly optimistic and I'll more than likely be waiting something like a year?
Would hate to pay that much and not actually get the thing for a year although I understand these are special runs and that's kind of just how it goes sometimes. Any advice appreciated before I make/don't make the purchase.
Thank you!

2023.06.01 17:01 I_eat_sand_everyday Is it even worth it.

(RANT) Just been informed it’s 9 months until a possible appointment and that I’m lucky to get even that.
I can’t take the adderall my physiatrist prescribed for crippling depression, I can’t drink coffee at risk of hypertension. I will have absolutely no trace of joy or happiness or any emotion for this next year. I will be in survival mode.
I am expected to make an absolutely soulless vehicle of my shitty excuse for a “body”. I’m expected to just shut my brain down and propel myself forward. Each day getting a few shitty hours of sleep, somehow pulling on work clothes over my fat, disgusting body, working for 9 hours, trying to save up what little money I have to maybe move out someday. (I’m 20) I dropped out of high school, I have no degree, no job, no friends, no life plan. I am truly coming to terms with the fact that any hopes or dreams I might have had growing up will not come to pass.
In this time, I could get diabetes, I could get organ damage, etc. I am horrifically grotesquely ugly so I can imagine I don’t invoke much sympathy. I am in constant pain.
Serious question and please answer honestly, is suicide the answer? I am seriously, seriously considering doing it peacefully as all the times I hesitated in the past have led to more misery. I sincerely, genuinely, cannot do this anymore.

2023.06.01 17:00 Charming_Bid_4820 I asked myself a question today "Is MSF a fun game? "

This seems like a stupid question since I've been playing this game for 1557 days but times have changed. After really thinking about it MSF has become the biggest cookie cutter game I've played. Scopely literally tells you everything you should be doing. Upgrade these specific teams if you want to keep progressing but wait don't do it to fast I didn't tell you it was time to open training or gold orbs yet. Don't make any plans it's time for a blitz event push buttons every 2 hours trust me it's not repetitive. Here are your hard fought for rewards but you should wait to open them since you never know I might decide you need it for a surprise event. Don't get me wrong new raids are fun for a while. I enjoy CC at the moment and once I listen to scopely and upgrade the new warrior it will be even more enjoyable thank goodness there is a gold orb event soon.

2023.06.01 17:00 21_Golden_Guns Need some Wish Ender help

So I’ll try and keep this brief. I didn’t get Wish Ender before because I gave up at the token stage because it wasn’t working properly, however in my inventory I have the Talisman I’m meant to present to the awoken warrior.
When I go there, she has a quick line of dialogue and then nothing. Before her are three tiny statues (all holding glowing orbs) and three dishes (only one of which is holding an orb, the middle one, presumably because i didn’t finish that part of the quest. I would charge the tokens accept they aren’t in my inventory and I can’t seem to obtain them anymore).
So I guess my question is, are the tokens available any more (already checked Petra) or not? And do I need them anymore? I remember a few seasons back Bungie circumvented parts of this quest but I’m unsure where to find the specifics.
I’ve abandoned and started this quest multiple times with the “present talisman’ task as my only objective.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, even if I have to get in contact with Bungie directly to sort this out.

2023.06.01 17:00 alex-eagle Is there any music streaming service that allows me to stream ATMOS on a Desktop PC with an ATMOS receiver?

This is an honest question. I think I'm going to throw the towel. I've tried Apple Music, no ATMOS on Desktop App nor iTunes App, tried TIDAL, no ATMOS on the desktop App but works on FireTV (I hate that device and I hate it even more than I have to somehow connect it to my receiver on a separate line to be able to hear ATMOS tracks when I have the PC connected through HDMI.
Spotify does not even have Hi-Res audio, Deezer doesn't have ATMOS, Qobuz is only available in the US and Europe and not in my country (Panama), Amazon Music HD works on FireTV with ATMOS but the desktop app does not support ATMOS and also the app itself is horrible and the way they handle the library is preposterous.... I'm stuck and it feels there is no escape, I cannot hear ATMOS on a PC, even when there are lots of games supporting it quite easily with the Atmos App which I've purchased.
I'm deeply sad about the current state of afairs regarding the PC. Is there any hope?

2023.06.01 17:00 Puzzleheaded_Lab_876 Another question from me.

Hello again all. As I have posted before my family will be taking amtrak from Connecticut down the coast to orlando for a trip to disney in october. We have booked round trip via amtrak. My question is this...does anyone know how full the silver meteor gets that time of year? Like for example alot of times when I check on the silver meteor this time of year the train is alot of times like 80 to 90 percent full both directions. Is that the case year round for this particular route or is it just busier this time of year with so many people taking vacations? We have never taken a train before and I guess are wondering how full everyone thought the meteor would be come october. TIA

2023.06.01 17:00 chitchat88 Thymosin Alpha 1, now elevated Liver Enzymes?

- 34, male, Germany, no drinking, working out
I try to recover from MRNA/COVID problems and wanted to fix my immune system. I never had any issues with my liver enzymes. I started with Thymosin Alpha 1 some weeks ago, with 500 mcg daily.
I asked my Doc to do a blood panel and I was a little "shocked" (had no chance to talk to him, have to wait a week):
ASAT GOT 1.48 normal < 0.85
ALAT GPT 0.99 normal < 0,85
The rest of the blood panel looked okay, LDL slightly elevated. The only think I really changed is taking this peptide. The blood was taken on wednesday and saturday I got sick with flu like symptoms, not really an explanation why my liver enzymes are higher right?
I'm also on TRT (TEST E), injecting EOD ... also this schouldn't cause any harm to the liver.
Could there be anything wront with the thymosin alpha 1 that I bought? :( - uploaded the blood panel:
Thanks for helping!
