2023.05.27 20:17 iwasworthusing AITA for only having instant coffee in MY apartment and no coffee machine
I (22m) live in an apartment alone. I also work form home and craft and sell things customers order from my apartment. I have one section in my closet to hang clothes, a couple drawer slots and the rest is just holding products and supplies. Also my kitchen space is LOUSY to say the least. My counter space is a single small rectangle that is about as big as a dinner tray. I keep pots and pans in the oven unless I am using the oven then I take them out and put them on the floor in the living room. I keep a rice cooker on my counter because I make and eat rice frequently but if I need to cut or prepare something I put it on the floor. I'm not trying to keep this too long but I have no space to keep things I don't use. No spare cupboard space. Definitely not a space to hold a coffee machine.
I'm having an issue with my parents, cousin, and when my grandmother visited. They are the only ones that come here somewhat often that complain. I don't really have a big space to entertain so if I am hanging out with friends we usually go somewhere else. And if they are here my friends never complain. I don't drink coffee or alcohol and I've never received complaints from them that there isn't beer. My parents come by and without fail they complain that there isn't coffee. I tell them I have instant coffee but they look at me like I am crazy when I bring that up. With my parents its is just subtle jabs. My grandma seems more vocally upset about no coffee machine. My cousin was like "where's the coffee?" but all of them act like instant coffee is the worst thing ever. I am not a coffee drinker so I can't speak on the quality of the beverage. I've tasted instant coffee and I have tasted fancy expensive fresh ground coffee and it all tastes like burnt bitter something to me.
I keep getting pressured to get a coffee machine for guests and in theory, I like the idea. I would not get instant coffee if I were opposed to it. I just simply don't have space for anything not essential. I was gifted an air fryer last Christmas and it's just been sitting in storage because I have nowhere to keep it. I sent a group text to all of them saying. "Please stop complaining about the lack of coffee. You've been here, you know I don't have space for a machine. Either put funds together so I can afford a bigger place or just bring coffee with you." They think I am being rude for not having one but I think it's rude to go to someone's house and feel entitled to things. I really enjoy milkshakes but I don't bitch when somebody doesn't have the means to make a milkshake at their house.

2023.05.27 18:50 CWang As a Therapist, I Know What’s Breaking Couples Up How relationships come to an end and the scourge of the smartphone
I've been doing couples and family therapy for over twenty-five years. I like it more than individual counselling because you see the interplay and dynamic between people. My clients mainly fall into two buckets: couples with kids under five and couples whose youngest child has just left home.
The biggest change I’ve seen in relationships is the damn smartphone: texting, internet, instant communication. Smartphones have caused more upheaval than anything I’ve seen in my career. We’ve normalized them being intrusive and taking precedence when people are lying in bed, playing Wordle or scrolling through TikTok rather than talking to each other. And we’ve gotten used to communication being instantaneous when a healthy relationship requires you to slow down and listen to each other.
When the COVID-19 pandemic started, I saw an immediate plummet in the demand for counselling as many people went into survival mode. A lot of people can go into emergency mode and do well with one another. But as time went on, people realized the pandemic was going to last much longer. What I saw was a pressure cooker. Many existing issues were in stasis as people hunkered down, and meanwhile, more things were being stuffed into the pot.
In the next few years, I think, we’ll see the aftershock of the pandemic on couples. I think it’ll be coming in the next year or two, maybe three, especially for couples with younger kids who lost time in school, or people who lost their jobs or had to start new careers. Will the stress levels just keep going up with these couples until they break?

2023.05.27 00:29 Dulum Rice cooking.
Considering buying the instant pot, but I had a question I couldn't find the answer to online. Does the instant pot also function as a regular rice cooker, or does it only cook rice with pressure? Because in my experience, rice never comes out as good when cooked in a pressure cooker. I know they say it is also a "rice cooker", but i was wondering if it can literally function as if it was a regular rice cooker or not.

2023.05.26 19:24 baybeebren Help me make my beef stock gelatinous!
I used my instant pot for two hours on low pressure with roasted beef marrow bones and this other beef bones that might be knuckles I’m not sure. I put two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in it along with all my vegetables and herbs. I then filled the whole pot with water all the way to max. I think I added too much water. I need to know what I can do to fix it to make it jelly?
Edit: I did it!! It’s so jiggly wiggly and thick now😁 I reduced it in a pot for a little while then I put my stock back in my instant pot for two hours on low with some beef feet and some more soup bones I got from the grocery store after roasting them of course and I added the bones I used for the first attempt as well. I think adding the beef feet did the trick for me.

2023.05.26 13:49 wwccdd What am I doing wrong?
I bought a pressure cooker (just a
normal stovetop one, not an Instant Pot), and decided to try it to cook black beans from dry beans. Most recipes I found call for no more than 30 minutes, but after 2 different cookings at 20 minutes each (valve on meat position, which is supposed the be the highest pressure mode), the beans end up kind of cooked, but definitely have a good bite to them and they are nowhere near creamy. I wonder what I'm doing wrong? Here's my exact process:
- Used regular dry black beans soaked overnight for about 18 hours and rinsed
- Softened my onion and added spices directly in the pot for a few minutes, and added tomato paste, salt to taste and water (about an inch above the beans level), then closed the lid
- Heat at max power until the cooker started whistling, then reduced the heat to level 6 (out of 9 on a vitroceramic stove)
- Cooked for 20 minutes (most recipes usually call for about 20 minutes)
- Waited about 15 minutes and opened the lid, the beans were still quite hard (about the same as if they had been cooking on a regular pot I'd say)
- Repeated the process a second time, the beans were just cooked, but not really creamy at all
Nothing seems to be wrong with the cooker itself, there isn't any apparent leak, and the whistling is constant. Am I being too conservative with the heat?
One thing I noticed is that after waiting for the cooker to cool down for 15 mn, there is no pressure escaping when I open the valve, should there be some?

2023.05.26 09:36 Sarlh Bulk Shrimp in PC
I'm cooking 30 lbs of shrimp for a party. I have a 10 qt pressure cooker. Can I fill the entire pot to the max line for each batch?
If so....
Should I steam or pressure cook?
How long should I cook for?
Can I use beer as the liquid and old bay seasoning before cooking to marinade or do you have a better recommendation?

2023.05.25 01:10 reabobeabananafanafo Struggling to eat, like seriously struggling!
TLDR at bottom,
For context and background if important: So I have always had an odd relationship with food. Growing up I wasn’t into the typical food other children were eating, I really liked roasted meat and boiled vegetables. This was basically what I grew up eating everyday and I like to think I was very lucky with my food as a child. The attitude by my parents was very much you eat what is there or go hungry. I was pretty good at filling up on whatever I had in front of me, I was never pressured to finish my meal but I was never allowed to not touch a single thing.
As I got into my teens I became a lot more fussy and started having aversions to foods. I’ve always been weirdly adverse to condiments, Mayo and ketchup being the main culprits. I started exploring eating food outside of my parents supervision etc.
As I became a lot older it was clear to me that I did struggle with food. I loved eating but I struggled to find food that didn’t come with sensory issues or concerns. I was really scared of eating something that I wouldn’t like so I often wouldn’t try new things. I had a slight ED as I left school and that got better when I started working at a bar.
Then I went to uni and I had a really great relationship with food! I was cooking a lot and really enjoying it. I wasn’t trying a lot of new food but it didn’t phase me.
Met my partner at end of uni and he’s vegan, really loved cooking for him and exploring different recipes.
About a year before diagnosis, I noticed I started to slip into a bit of a takeaway habit. I would be so tired after work and my partner usually says “I just don’t want to spend my evenings cooking the whole time.” So it became a big routine for us both.
Post diagnosis, I am not hungry. I have hardly felt hunger on medication. I’ve got a lower dose now that I’m happy with but I still notice I can’t eat. It’s getting to the point where I’m frequently having a bad/wobbly moment because I’m hangry. I’ve tried asking for help but honestly I don’t know what to do. People telling me to “just eat” isn’t helping at all. I struggle with bulk cooking too, I don’t like how the food slowly decomposes in the fridge, I will actively avoid opening it if I know I will be faced with funny smells and sights, let alone eating.
I struggle mostly with lunchtime at work, I used to eat pot noodles, because easily and filling and cheap. Now they are disgusting to me, I literally just have a microwave and toaster at work. I mostly eat vegan because it’s easier with my partner being vegan. I honestly have no idea what I could possibly eat and I’m looking for ideas/advice/help/suggestions. At this point I’m stuck and I don’t know what to do, I can’t carry on like this because it is starting to affect my working relationships, that sounds dramatic but I get seriously moody!
TLDR: Struggling to eat, had an always odd relationship with food and other food aversions that I still struggle with, as well as sensory issues, any advice?

2023.05.24 17:39 Entire_Character7386 Pressure problem with Ninja foodi smart lid
Does anyone else has a problem with the pressure feature of the smart lid? It happens to me 3 out of 4 times when I use it to not be able to build pressure (no pressure). I used to have a previous model and I never had a problem (op500), I always use the same amount of liquid as with the previous model so not sure what the problem is. Maybe am I doing something wrong? The machine passed the pressure test....

2023.05.23 19:10 haileyystone Lions mane - help
Hey! So I'm growing lions mane at home - I bought spore syringes online and innoculated rye grain in jars and that process was fine!
I then bought raw oak sawdust from my local furniture maker. I mixed the sawdust with wheat bran. My first attempt at pasturising this was I put it in a large bucket and poured boilinf water over it , popped on the lid and wrapped it in a towel overnight. I then steralized buckets (with drilled holes around covered with micropore tape) and added the supplimented sawdust and my rye grain. About 4 days later it began to mould. Which of course broke my heart. But I got 2 or 3 little mushrooms from this.
My second attempt - I put the supplimented sawdust in a large pot and boiled it for 2 hours. Then wrapped the pot in a towle and let it cool overnight. I drained the water and again my buckets moulded.
Any advice on how to steralize my sawdust better? Is it better in a pressure cooker? And how can I increase my growth?
Much appreciated!!
